Purpose

The purpose of the ATAYAL organization, as guided by its Mission Statement, and furthered by its Projects, is to connect the indigenous communities of the world, including the First Nations of the United States and Canada. With a stronger partnership between tribal nations, there can be more cultural and economic opportunities. When indigenous communities can work together, they can find ways to build sustainable livelihoods that support the traditional languages and cultures. By preserving these cultures, the spirit of the indigenous peoples that has sustained human life for millennia may once again nurture all of humanity in the future.

Leadership

The ATAYAL organization is led by Executive Director, Tony Coolidge, and Treasurer, Shu-min Coolidge. Together, they started the organization to educate Americans about the indigenous culture of Taiwan, and many activities have grown from that spirit of education and cultural expression. The organization is currently overseen by a Board of Directors and guided by an Advisory Board. While currently in Taiwan, the directors are building new connections for future cross-cultural projects. For more details on the leadership, click here.

Public Support

Although a significant portion of the project funding came from the founding directors, themselves, the majority of funding for the projects have come from public support, in the form of tax-deductible donations. 100% of the donations have been applied to paid for project expenses and minor administrative expenses, such as license fees, web hosting, domain name renewal, etc. Donations are the lifeblood of any charitable organization and are greatly appreciated.
