Pflugerville, TX - March 01, 2012 - Voices in the Clouds, a documentary film project supported by the ATAYAL Organization, was selected to be screened at the 2012 Wairoa Maori Film Festival. The festival organizer, Leo Koziol, made the invitation. The film festival will take place in the Kahungunu Marae in Nuhaka, a town on the east coast of the north island. This area is near where the first Maori peoples settled in Aotearoa (New Zealand). This film festival focuses on films produced by Maori filmmakers, but will include a few indigenous films from other countries.
"This was a wonderful surprise, and it will be my dream come true to visit New Zealand to represent the film to share my mother's culture with the Maori." stated Tony Coolidge.
Voices in the Clouds is a documentary film which features Tony Coolidge's discovery of his mother's disappearing indigenous heritage in Taiwan, and reminds its viewers of the importance of connecting with the culture of their ancestors before it is too late. The film's selection into the 2012 Wairoa Film Festival will allow Tony Coolidge to travel to New Zealand for the first time and to build a connection between the Maori and the Austronesian tribes of Taiwan.
